For industrial buildings, the external works are frequently as significant a project component as the building structure. A distribution centre with 10,000 m² of building may have 15,000–20,000 m² of hardstand and accessways.

Getting the hardstand right — correct slab thickness for the truck loads it will carry, adequate crossfall for drainage, properly designed stormwater management — is critical to the long-term functionality and value of the asset.

Designed to the specific wheel loads and frequencies — truck areas typically 200–300 mm reinforced concrete on compacted base for B-double axle loads. Specialist pavement engineers and laser-guided screeding deliver accurate level tolerances.

Asphalt Car Parking & Roads

Car parking and light-vehicle access roads in asphalt over crushed rock base — cost-effective, good long-term performance, and well-suited where aesthetics and periodic resurfacing are acceptable.

Crossfall & Surface Drainage

Consistent crossfalls (typically 1–2%) with integrated surface drains, pits, and kerb and channel to direct stormwater to collection points without ponding.

Stormwater Management

On-site detention and retention — underground tanks, surface basins and bio-retention (rain gardens) — plus gross pollutant traps and oil/water separators to treat stormwater before discharge, satisfying council requirements.

Erosion & Sediment Control

An Erosion and Sediment Control Plan implemented during construction in accordance with QUDM and council requirements — silt fences, sediment basins and stabilised construction entrances.

Other External Works

Security fencing and automated access gates, LED area and security lighting, council-compliant landscaping, signage structures and utilities connections to the site boundary.
