Portal frame steel — a structural system using rigid frames of welded steel columns and rafters — provides the clear internal spans industrial occupiers need without internal columns interrupting the floor area.

Spans of 18 to 60 metres are routinely achievable, and heights from 5 metres to 18 metres to haunch are standard for industrial buildings.

Portal Frame Design

Experienced structural steel engineers design frames to AS 4100:2020 and AS/NZS 1170, accounting for wind region, building classification, crane loads and special loading conditions — detailed for cost-effective fabrication and fast erection.

Fabrication & Supply

Structural steel fabricated by established Queensland and Australian fabricators using certified steel (AS/NZS 3678). Strong procurement relationships across SEQ ensure competitive pricing and programme reliability.

Roof & Wall Cladding

Colorbond steel or equivalent metal sheeting selected for the wind load zone and building height. Insulated cladding or sarking specified where thermal, acoustic or condensation control is required.

Crane Runway Beams

For factories and workshops needing overhead crane access, runway beams are integrated into the portal frame design, coordinated with crane suppliers for correct beam sizing, splice locations and end-stop detailing.

Mezzanine Structures

Steel mezzanine levels for storage, office or amenities, designed to appropriate live loads (typically 3.0–7.5 kPa) and integrated with the fire exit provisions of the main building.

Yes. Extension is generally straightforward — new frames are bolted to the end frames of the existing building and cladding is extended to match. We can assess your existing building and design a structurally compatible extension.
Brisbane and the Gold Coast are classified as Wind Region B under AS/NZS 1170.2 — a moderate region that does not require cyclone-rated construction. Areas north of approximately Noosa Heads move into Wind Region C (cyclone). Our engineers design to the correct region for each project.
